Photo I took of downtown Denver, from a West Highlands vantage. 2017

I took this photo on a Sony A7iii, with a Sony FE 28–70mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS lens. I would suggest a few things to achieve simmilar long exposure shots like this.

How do you shoot long exposure on Sony A7iii? This can be tricky without a few basic things, so let’s get started!

  1. Use a tripod.
  2. ND filter attached to lens, between a 6 stop and a 10 stop filter. (unless you’re shooting at night, obviously)
  3. Aperture priority mode, selecting aperture based on desired depth of field. If you’re shooting a city skyline, I like to let the camera decide, and use auto focus.
  4. Manually set ISO low, ISO 100.
  5. Letting the camera determine a slow enough shutter speed for the exposure.
  6. Turn OFF steadyshot.

If you’re creating night time video, color grading is super important as it allows for your video to stay visually appealing even in low light. One of my favorite resources for color grading is:
